My sister actually asked a woman who baked cakes for a reception place to make her cake privately. The woman was happy to do it this way as she didn’t have to go through the company and give them a portion of what the cake cost. She had a 4 tired cake (chocolate mud with white icing, flowers and ribbon) for $200. But I think she is retired now. Perhaps you could try venues in your area to ask the same thing.

She had her reception in the eastern suburbs- I’m not sure where in Melb your wedding is but you could ask where they cater to.
